Mr John Foster

I've been a photographer since the early 1970's after a mis-spent youth in abstract painting. I've  followed the usual path of landscapes, streetscapes and portraiture and I spent a considerable amount of time and energy in darkrooms learning the craft of processing and printing from film. In 2000 I gave up the chemicals and moved to digital which has given me the impetus to try some new directions. I'm very aware that the modern world is awash with digital images and it's harder than ever to be original and so I search for things which are a little unusual or off the beaten track. I now often use my photographs as a starting point for composite or abstract images which may involve some digital manipulation and drawing on a tablet, although in these albums you will also see observational photographs which are straight from the camera. In the last year I have had images selected for 3 exhibitions, created two photobooks and achieved my LRPS distinction. I'm saving up for a proper camera.
