Visit Leake Street, Lower Marsh and the Hayward with London Mid-week

18 March 2019

11:00 - 15:30

Under the Clock at Waterloo Station
Waterloo Mainline Station
United Kingdom

All comers£0.00

We will meet under the clock at Waterloo Station for an 11.00am start.

Our first port of call will be the Leake Street Graffiti Tunnel under Waterloo Station. One of London's not-so-hidden gems, the 300m tunnel is the city's largest legal wall and has been a bastion of London's street art scene since 2008.  Lots to read about on various websites, or just come along and see for yourself.

After we have had our fill of brightly colour images, we will move to the gem of Lower Marsh Market. Lower Marsh is one of London's oldest and arguably best-loved market streets and still features independent shops and restaurants.  It hosts a diverse range of Street Food to suit all tastes, from Italian Classics to Sushi Sandwiches - there is always a new cuisine to try and goodies to buy!  Here's a Time Out article to browse (although it is dated 2016 and may not be entirely up-to-date)

We will have lunch at The Mulberry Bush, after which we will visit the Hayward Gallery for the much anticipated Diane Arbus Exhibition:  diane arbus: in the beginning.  To quote The Guardian '... genius who made every picture a story' - definitely not to be missed.  If you are not a member of the South Bank Centre & Hayward Gallery, you will need to buy a timed entry ticket.

We will be keeping the numbers very strictly to 16 but if there is demand, we might be persuaded to re-run this walk on another date.....

Roger says:  "What photos don’t show are the various aromas and scents from the food stalls in Lower Marsh (and of course the spray paint in Leake Street"  Look forward to those lovely aromas .....
