THIS WALK IS NOW FULLY BOOKED BUT IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO JOIN THE WAITING LIST, PLEASE CONTACT THE ORGANISER BELOW.

This month we will do something a little different, starting at the Millenium Dome we will cross the river by cable car, explore Victoria Dock and walk through to Thames Barrier Park finishing with a short trip on the DLR to Woolwich for lunch. Details below!

Cable Car to Thames Barrier Park

We meet at the Costa Coffee House close by North Greenwich Station (Jubilee Line).  We will leave there at 11.15.

We briefly explore the public space outside the North Greenwich Arena (aka Millennium Dome) before going over to the Emirates Airline terminal – here is a link

https://www.emiratesairline.co.uk/tickets-information/

We take the cable car to cross the Thames, from the south side to the north. Please be aware there is a charge for this, Oyster card users get a discount, but it is outside the usual daily cap.

The ride in the cable car is fairly short, and the views are excellent, so if you plan to take pictures during the ride, BE PREPARED. Don’t wait till you are part way into the journey to change a battery …

We disembark the cable car on the north side of the Thames at the Royal Victoria Dock

We head towards Excel and take the Royal Victoria Bridge to cross the Dock (we are still on the north side of the river). Views from the bridge are great; the City Airport, looking towards the Royal Albert Dock, is in one direction and Canary Wharf in the other. There are steps to climb in order to access the bridge, but I think the views are worth the effort.  If you feel that several flights of stairs are 'a bridge too far', there is an alternative and some may wish to walk along the south side of the dock instead and meet us as we leave the bridge. Rejoining as a Group, we walk to the Thames Barrier Park, crossing the North Greenwich Road and passing nearby Pontoon Dock DLR station. The Thames Barrier park is a small riverside park and as the name suggests the Thames Barrier straddles the river here. The Barrier, and the park offer opportunities for a variety of different types of photos.  (There is a coffee shop and facilities in the Park).

We hope you will continue the journey and join us for lunch as we adjourn to Woolwich Arsenal via the DLR from Pontoon Dock (alternative destinations to Bank and Stratford). You can explore Woolwich in your own time after lunch, if you so wish.. Woolwich Arsenal is on the DLR and National Rail.
